I'm planning on getting a job soon. Any recommendations on good jobs to try, tips for the interview, handling customers, etc. I'm looking at applying at a grocery store possibly.Does anyone have advice for getting your first job?
Sounds like a cliche, but find something you enjoy doing and find a place where you enjoy the people. At a young age, that can make a huge difference. A grocery store is a good place since there are many different jobs for the same employer so if you find you are not a good fit for one position, you may still be able to switch without finding a new place to work. The same could probably be said about a department store like a Target or Wal-Mart. I couldn't stress enough about liking the people you work with. At a young age, if you can work with friends, or make friends with the people you work with, it can feel as though you are not even working.
For the interview, be open and honest. Let them know you have no experience, but you are willing to do whatever is asked of you to be a positive influence.
With customers, a smile can always go a long way. Always stay focused on doing your job, and the rest will take care of itself.Does anyone have advice for getting your first job?
use your hobbies and community service etc. as your attributes.
Smile a lot through the interview and be personable, and when you start working, just keep being friendly. With a friendly attitude, slacking off probably won't even hurt your chances of getting fired. By the way - work hard.
