Any advice for uninsured unemployed American 41 yr old with breast lump?

It is about the size of a cranberry very close to the surface of aureola. Can I just pay cash for a biopsy or do I have to go through mammogram and sonograms first?Any advice for uninsured unemployed American 41 yr old with breast lump?
Generally, you will be required to have some sort of imaging test before the doctors will do a biopsy. In fact, many times, an ultrasound or mammogram will provide sufficient information, so a biopsy is not needed. But you have options....

To locate a FDA certified, accredited mammography facility in your area, call the National Cancer Institute at 1-800-4-CANCER. If you do not have health insurance, you have a number of options:

****Call your local chapter of the American Cancer Society (number in your phone book) or the national toll-free number, 1-800-ACS-2345. The ACS will be able to tell you about any low-cost or free mammography programs offering screening to women unable to pay for it themselves.

****Call your State Department of Health (number in your phone book). Every state now has a Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program funded by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This program offers screening to qualifying women unable to pay for it themselves.

****Call the YWCA's ENCOREplus Program for access to low-cost or free mammograms. To find which YWCA facilities offer this service and if you are eligible, call 1-800-95EPLUS or your local YWCA.

****Call the National Cancer Institute at 1-800-4-CANCER for the names of FDA-certified, accredited mammography facilities in your area. If you explain your financial situation, some mammography facilities are willing to work out a lower fee or payment schedule that will make the test more affordable. Ask the facility if they are willing to discuss these options with you.

try and get insurance through the state welfare
Just go to the doctor even if you don't have insurance. It is better to do that then to die if it is cancer.
If you have minor children and have assets totalling less than $2000 (car and house are exempted), you will likely meet the requirements for Medicaid (MediCal in CA).

If you don't qualify for Medicaid or MediCal, your county health system will classify you as ';medically indigent'; and provide care at little or no cost to ou.

Call your county's department of health to get you started.
whatever you end up doing just take care of it. my friend's mom discovered a breast lump but didn't get it taken care of because she couldn't afford it. It spread to her lungs and two years ago she died. so please please please seek treatment, God will provide.
Go to hospital. Seek help. In Texas county hospitals will treat you. Indigent health care must be paid for by county. Many large hospitals have funds to help people who need it. Many churches might help if you approach them with problem. Do not wait. Keep on until you get help. Chances are it could be infection but you must be certain.
A lot of local health depts will offer free mammograms and I believe that some Planned Parenthoods now also offer free screenings.

Is there a free/reduced clinic in your area?

Do you qual for state medicaid?
you have breast cancer....
Check your local papers. I know in my area, sometimes there are women's health fairs with free or reduced-cost mammograms. Call your local charity clinic, they may be able to advise you.
They have to have diagnostic testing first before doing a biopsy. Check your local wellness clinics as well as your local hospital now a days they offer free programs and screenings and even care for breast health issues! Chances are you could be fine and need no further treatment. Good luck!
